It's fairly common knowledge that soldiers got rid of their issued shelter tent poles pretty quickly. But one assumes that, at least for a short while, they were issued, used, and most importantly for the purposes of this discussion, carried. Are there any sources that say how they were carried by soldiers? Were they wrapped up in the greatcoat or blanket on top of the knapsack? Tied into the apron, or stuffed in the haversack?
