  • General Order No. 77

I have been searching this site and the scouring the entire web, but can find no copy of this General Order. I know it has something to do with discharges, as the only references I can find state, "Discharged in accordance with General Order No. 77". Can anyone direct me to where I might find the full text of this Order?

Just as a reminder, general orders were issued from time to time by every piece of the army, from the headquarters in Washington to the regiments themselves, each numbered and each covering some specific need to get something(s) done. Tracking down a specific G.O. may entail a trip to NARA.

While this is only for the year 1863, I hope it can be of some use...

      Hope it helps!

Received. “How now about the fifth and sixth guns?”
Sent. “The sixth gun is the bully boy.”
Received. “Can you give it any directions to make it more bully?”
Sent. “Last shot was little to the right.”
Received. “Fearfully hot here. Several men sunstruck. Bullets whiz like fun. Have ceased firing for awhile, the guns are so hot."
