Calvin Boggess enlisted in the Mexican War, then took part in a filibuster (mercenary) attempt to overthrow the Spanish rule of Cuba in 1850, along came the Third Seminole War and he served there also, and after trying to avoid Confederate service (he was a Unionist at heart), he joined the CS Cow Cavalry. In between and afterwards he had lots of other fascinating adventures. A very interesting read, especially for those interested in the Florida part of the CW.
