Looking for specific information, rations issued to any of the divisions/brigades within the 14th Corp early March 1865. The subsistence train per Corp , division, or brigade they had on hand..
I know what garrison and marching rations are by regulations, not looking for that.
What I’m specifically looking for, were they still on the March to sea mindset especially in N.C.
We know in Georgia, it was so many days issued rations and we’re expecting to forage for the remaining X number of days. I believe I read once, that it was a three to one ratio in rations on the march. Im think that was primarily coffee and hard tack, forcing the federal columns to supply their meat, for a 10 days worth of rations for a 30 day period.
Sort of looking at, was it more beef issued versus pork. The state of N.C ability to supply/support two opposing armies in the field. Any information on captured inventory “procured”, from CS or North Carolina food stocks.. either government or civilian, major grain mills or store taken etc etc.
So basically you’re a soldier in the 14th corp army marching rations from the subsistence department stocks in the columns or from primarily the local populous.
