  • Confederate Skirmishers' Drill and Bayonet Exercise Manual Reprints?

This may be a long shot but I was curious if anyone knows where I could find a copy of the Confederate Skirmishers' Drill and Bayonet Exercise Manual, which was originally printed in Richmond, Va. in 1861. It seems like an intriguing text.

    Thanks,

    Jason,

I'm not so sure Cary's manual has ever been reprinted.

Cary, R. Milton. Skirmisher's Drill and Bayonet Exercise (as Now Used in the French Army), with Suggestions for the Soldier in Actual Conflict. Compiled and Translated for the Use of the Volunteers of the State of Virginia and the South. (Richmond, Va.: West & Johnston, 1861).

According to Parrish and Willingham's Confederate Imprints, original copies, however, do survive at various libraries and repositories:

    Yale University, New Haven, Conn.
    Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
    Emory University, Atlanta, Geo.
    Boston Public Library, Boston, Mass.
    Boston Athenaeum, Boston, Mass.
New York Historical Society, New York, N.Y.
United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C.
    Rice University, Houston, Tex.
    Virginia State Library, Richmond, Va.
    Virginia Historical Society, Richmond, Va.
Historical Society of Wisonsin, Madison, Wis.
    Marshall University, Huntington, W.V.

      Eric,

Sounds like the Historical Society and the State Library are my best shots.

      Thanks again,

      Jason.
