  • A Singular Case of Double Marriage - Perryville

This isn't sourced but an interesting read nonetheless. Apparently the battle of Perryvlle, Kentucky led to this woman taking a second husband.

    Wonder how that sorted out.

One can hope it sorted out as amicably as a WWI case in our extended family.

Very similar tale, complete with War Department telegram and personal effects returned. The young widow was ripe with child, and without means of support of any consequence. She married another man in the community within months, and prior to the birth of the child.

The first husband returned under similar circumstances, having been a prisoner. Word has it that that the two men, childhood friends, settled the matter between themselves--they flipped a silver dollar, with the first husband taking the call.

They never announced who 'won' or 'lost' that coin toss, but after some fairly complicated legal work, the second husband remarried the young 'widow', and the first husband married-------her younger sister.
