It sure is a lot easier to work with leather when you have the right tools instead of the classic ersatz combination of nail, plain needles, garden-variety scissors, &cet!

I've been avoiding it, but I gotta go there again soon...better bring a U-Haul...;)
Yup, been-there-done-that!:tounge_sm I have a whole elk hide that I bought there on sale and I'm STILL debating what I want to do with it. Nice and soft like buckskin, but MUCH heavier. I thought it might make a nice vest - there's certainly enough there for it. They also used to sell a nice butcher-block constructed leatherworking bench, and matching chair, and I bought that set before I left Philly. Much better than working at the kitchen table!

          Richard,

I do not know what type of knapsack you are looking for, but I understand the Museum of the Confederacy has detailed object worksheets available. They cost $30: http://www.moc.org/site/PageServer?p...e=ce_aids_main. I am not sure of all they have available but I do remember hearing about a Kibbler knapsack sheet. Or if you get a chance, try contacting a museum closer to you about getting some research time with the objects. I just went today to the MOC for only $10 and saw amazing items in the storage room with a curator. I can't wait to go back.

            Hi,

Thanks for posting the link to the MOC. I did not know they had some of those services on there web site.

              Thanks!

The MOC id just one of many places I want to visit when my kids are old enough to appreciate it - along with Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Charleston, etc, etc. :)
