  • Pipe Cleaning Thread?

    Hey All,

I could have sworn there was a pipe cleaing thread here at some point. Anyone remember? Searched and could not find one.

Here's my dilema - i've tried picking, soaking in vinegar, and boiling but nothing seams to budge the caked residue in my pipe. Its a period bowl that was purchased with a pre-existing clog. If anyone has sugestions or a link to the old thread that seems to have disappeared - please let me know.

I don't have any ideas other than using a pipe reamer for the bowl and alcohol for the stem. You might try the Smoker's Forum for help.

Try taking the stem off, plugging the shank, and then filling the bowl with alcohol and letting it sit and soak a bit. And no, alcohol in the bowl will not hurt it as long as it is good briar. I will use this on some of my modern pipes that have gone alittle too long between a good cleaning.

          Pipe Cleaning

          Garrett,

Find a local quality pipeshop/tobacconist that will give you a cost assessment to professionally clean your pipe. If you're often using the pipe in the field, it's good to know where to get expert repair.

If you can't find a local pipe repair, check these links for competent pipe repair & cleaning services:

          Hope this is helpful.

            do it yourself pipe cleaning/refurbishing

Was contacted after my last post on this thread regarding do it yourself pipe cleaning. Here are some places to get started:

Pipe cleaning fluid comprises digallic acid, and other impurities derived from ground briar root and the like, dissolved in a suitable solvent.

There are a variety of pipe cleaning videos on www.youtube.com/; some with more informative value than others.

Wow, you can find anything on YouTube. Thanks again for the help - I think it is unclogged.
