    Re: eating irons

Thanks chaps for the replies, seems the spoon & pocket knife prevails as advice. It's probably that we eat with both knife & fork together in the UK,as thats how were brought up to eat, hope it didn't seem a silly question to ask at the time.

      Daz,

      Definitely not a silly question.

In fact, the spoon and pocket knife thing was new to me.

        Daz,

No, it wasn't a silly question. This is one of those things that you'll have to experiment with. It’s not going to hurt you to try different things regarding mess gear.

Personally I carry two spoons, a fork, a "butter" knife, and a pocket knife. I have my own personal reasons why I carry these items just like Michael has his about forks. The rest of the Hornets generally just us a spoon and knife. I know a few others in separate units who swear by their combo sets.

Personality plays a big part in the items you decide to carry; you know that thing that makes you unique. Wither we like it or not we all take our personalities into the field with us, thus it is up to us to decide what we like and don't like. It’s ok, to experiment a bit with things like this. Try carrying a knife and spoon at an event. If you don't like that carry a knife, spoon, and fork or perhaps a knife and fork. Play around with it, and if you have the $ to spend and want to try the combo set go ahead. But a word of advice...I find that typically people dislike the combo and 5 out of 10 people who buy them leave them at home after a few events.

Wow... apparently it was me who misunderstood. When the OP mentioned "early war" I guess that meant to me the question was about impression, and not convenience. Mea culpa.

Just for the record, I carry the combo tool. It just seemed so handy as I was acquiring gear. But come to think of it, and in my limited usage of it, I have never used the fork.
