Re: Best Drill Sergeants at company/battalion level

    All,

Looking back over the years, my nod goes to Cal Kinzer for not only having mastered this material through the brigade level, but having the ability to teach even mundane subjects such as bayonet drill so that each man not only understood it, but also enjoyed it. He wasn't a bad paymaster, either.

The best I've ever worked with is not a Sgt but a Cpl.

Rich Talay who is part of my 125th NY.

This guy not only knows the manual(s) of arms inside and out (correct hand motions and all) for both Yank and Reb but the Battalion Commanders we serve under at the Mifflin Guard are always using his tent as an example of how it should be done for inspection.

He is not only knowledgeable but patient and quiet. he's as good with a bunch of school kids as he is with a new (or old) recruit.

Doesn't get any press outside the MG but he gets a lot of respect inside.
