I am talking about those trousers hahaha. I have been blessed enough to view the pair he made for Brian and they could actually work as an intimidation piece lol. Dont' get me wrong...wonderful construction...great trousers....unique fabric.

Don Smith of TMD fame makes a nice French Knapsack.One of my Pards has one, and the flap pocket has been the source of a few jokes as to it's use(think long, lonely nights and you'll get the idea).

I had one of these packs and used it for a few years. It is made by Sam. I saw the one at the show that you bought. What it is is a copy of the pack that is in The Atlanta History center. It is thought to be of CS issue. They don't know. Joe Blunt and I have been talking back and forth about this for a year or so now. There is a guy in GA that is making them his name is Buddy Jowers and he's with the GVB. They are not spot on but they are pretty nice copies. I know Layton Young makes them also. However I know both are not AC sutlers and this will more than likely get snatched off...however I just thought I would help out. If there is enough folks who want them I may try and make a few.

I know from experience they aren't too fun to make - I've tried. Mine too was based on the Atlanta History Center pack (which I believe they have more than one). I had an older one from Leighton Young awhile back, and it was a nice pack, but someone wanted it more than I did and bought it from me. There was some good disussion on this awhile back, particularly from Joe Blunt and our French cousin McOuiOui, so do a search on this forum.

I did a search and the only thing i could turn up was threads on what they looked like, and details, not on how they are packed.

This is very fascinating (even if the topic is French) here is Texas. Every few years we get people curious about doing the French Army in Mexico. The problem is that alot of the stuff is not readily available and the interest wains. If the packs and some of the gear start becoming more accessible, who knows what we might see running around! LOL!

In any cases, if in the future such a "company" had to be born in Texas, I know two, three, who could indeed come to Texas not only for CW event...

PS: Rougeaud our specialist of this period will belong to IPW, on the other hand he does not speak English then if you want reliable information on the French expeditionary force in Mexico, you have two months to teach French... Courage :) :) :)

I have a Sam Haywood pack. Most likely the last one he made. Did anyone say what the compartment in the flap is for? The opening for it is definitely a conversation starter. Used underware maybe?

The compartment in the flap closed by two small leather belt serve has to was able to the military record, the dress uniform does not exist has this period, it is the uniform decorated of some flourish which is used.
