    Re: "Roswell Gray"

Yes, the January 8, 1864 letter is among those published in Death of a Confederate. "There is no jean to be had now except brown which I think very ugly." 1/8/64 Mother in Roswell to Willie

As an aside, the next month she wrote to Willie (her eldest son) about a piece of jean and some pants, and then expressed concern about woolen cloth. Don't know what cloth she had made.
2/26/64 Mother in Roswell to Willie
"I have had some very nice & good looking cloth made for Father & [Archie] & woolen cloth is getting so scarce & high that I think it would be wise for you when the weather grows warm to have some cotton made up & put away your woolen for another winter."

      Re: "Roswell Gray"

There was a fellow down in Roswell who knew a lot about all things Roswell. I made several kepis for him & his pards, back in the 80s, with cloth he supplied. He called it Roswell gray. His name is eluding me, but some of you all know him, I believe his first name was Leyton ____________ . He made some painted CS gear over the years. He'd be the person to ask.

I think that kepi might be one of his "Roswell" kepis that I made back before my hair turned Roswell gray,

          Greg-

Layton Young was living in Cumming at the time, and making accoutrements. It may have been him.

              Yeah, that's him.

Who is Leyton Pennington? Who am I thinking of?
