  • Shoe Treatment

I am looking at purchasing a pair of Jefferson Bootees from MO. Boot and Shoe Co. I want an authentic and period method of treating and conditioning these, but am also looking for something to make this purchase lasting. Any help or recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Paul B. Boulden Jr.

    Re: Shoe Treatment

Here's a previous thread with a number of replies that go into shoe care:

If for some reason you can't get the link to come up, use the search function at the top and put in brogans. That will get you there.

    Hope this helps.

Three words, neats foot oil. Or two words.

The Report of the Secretary of War for 1865 lists Neatsfoot Oil as a regularly stocked item at several depots.

Does mink oil work as well? I've used this the past year and so far me brogans have faired great!

I also re-enact as a CS Marine. They told me to polish my boots like regular boots. The polish has a oil in it that stops the boot from drying out and cracking. I polish mine and I have had them for 9 years with no problems.
