  • Grenade Fuse

I have several small iron cannon balls that have wooden plugs as if to accept paper fuse. I have heard they were used as grenades on some occasion, if so, would the artillery paper fuse be used or would they be lit with a line fuse?
(They are both fakes and have nothing inside, I did read similar threads before posting this.)

These are only small, about 3" in Daimeter, anything heavier would require some shotputting skill.

A 6 lb ball is 3.58 inches in diameter. If yours are fakes then they could be anything. At times such as the battle of the Crater, fuses were lit and balls were rolled down on troops. Using a 6 lb ball as a hand granade is stretching it a bit. There was no provision to using anything but artillery fuses (either time fuse insert or boreman) on these balls.

Demo purpose only, Question answered perfectly and thanks very much.
I have already damaged a floor when I tossed one back into a box I was storing them in and missed so I would never throw them near people. So I think they can go as part of an arty display with red insert paper fuse as I have no means of faking a Boreman.
