  • 52nd Ky Mounted Infantry Regiment........

Hello, I am new here and have what may be an odd question. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was a member of the 52nd KY Mounted Infantry Regiment. While I have the roders of battle and rosters (he was in co. H) I have wondered to this day exactly what uniform he wore adn possibly what arm/arms were issued? They were more of a states guard but eventually made it down to Nashville and eventually Alabama. Any help would be reatly appreciated. Thanks, Craig

Not sure on the 52nd. I found, and have since lost info on the 39th KY MTD INF. They were pretty well equipped. I lost all my info when I moved and I am trying to relocate it. They never left the area of KY. Used a lot to chase Morgan and try to keep things calm in E.KY. William Helvey was discharged for an injury aquired by falling off his horse while chasing Morgan's men.

I do know that they were issued Enfields and seem to have been properly dresses as Union Soldiers.
This picture is of the 39th KY Mtd. Inf. US Co.F
2nd Lt. Jacob Helvey Co. C
Sgt. (upon discharge) Listed on roster as Cpl. William Helvey Co. C
    Both direct descendents.

I would seriously call into question the documentation for the image on that website. The men appear to armed with trap-door Springfields and are wearing 1880s style uniforms and caps. Just looking at it I would date it to the 1880s, certainly not 1860s.

Don't believe everything someone posts on the web.

          Hallo!

Doesn't "during the war" refer to during the Spanish American War?
