Recently I've seen perhaps three different weights of materials used in Union Greatcoat. I was wondering if anyone knew what weight wool was the most authentic? Were their as many different manufacturers as for Sack Coats etc?
I believe I read at one time that Great Coats were from a 22oz wool, but I don't recall where. That seems quite thin as I believe that was the same weight as the sack coat & trousers.
Also how common was the practice of replacing a wool blanket w/ a greatcoat and carrying it rolled w/in the gum blanket? I've read of this in a couple of different sources but wonder how common it would have been.
Thanks in advance for any info.
