Curt: not to be pedantic, but the Army Air Corps became the Army Air Force in 1941, before we entered WW II. It, in turn, became the U.S. Air Force in 1947. Your father doubtless served in the USAAF and was discharged from the new U.S. Air Force, if he separated in '48.

An interesting question. What NOT to do could possibly include not be insulting and arrogant. That goes for moderators as well.
