Correct Pipes

Where is the best place to find correct pipes? I want to stay away from clay pipes because they break way too easily. I thought of making one for myself, but I wanted to see if anyone offered them to keep my options open.

My suggestion would be to check out Randolph Ubben.

I have one of his pipes and it is terrific. He uses all period materials in his construction. His pipes are not cheap, but well worth the cost. Extraordinarily fast service for in-stock pipes, and he seems to be very open to ideas if you have something specific in mind. Nice guy on top of it all.

Hi,

Indeed, I would recommend Randy Ubben. I commissioned him to make a reproduction pipe, based on one illustrated in the "Tenting Tonight" volume of the Time-Life CW series. It came out very nicely and I'm very happy with it.

I agree that Randy Ubben has excellent pipes, but where could i find one that is moderately priced, but still a respectable period pipe.

Get acquainted with period styles, do some research, lots of photos show pipes.

Then keep your eyes on eBay, I have found some neat stuff there when it comes to pipes.

I'm proud to own a Randy U. pipe. It is indeed a fine piece of work.

For the budget minded, have you considered a nice clay? As you know, literally millions of clay pipe pieces have been dug over the years at sites both north and south. They are fragile, but blessedly cheap. Buy a couple and you'll only be out a few bucks. Your hat band or thru a buttonhole is a reasonably safe place to carry one.

Before purchasing clay pipes you should research to figure out which styles are War time and which are post war. I see quite a few repros offered as period pipes that are actually post war.
