Canvas Belts

I am wondering about canvas belts with a " wave" machine stitched into them through the whole belt and with a plan tin buckle. The one I saw a few years ago one of the guys in my unit had. He made the belt him self and stated that they were issued to troops during the Atlanta campaign to CS troops. I know what the belt looks like and I can very easily make one. However I do not want to do so with out some sort of documentation. Any help is welcomed, thanks in advance
