  • Attaching a blanket to Issac and campbell knapsack

Alright guys, I know this thread is on here somewhere but I can't remember who posted how to do it .

I am trying to figure out how to take a blanket roll and attach it to the issac and campbell pack, not just putting to roll on top of the pack but instead wrapping the whole blanket roll around the pack, i believe there is picture on the liberty rifles page under past event photos of a guy with his blanket roll done like I am trying to explain.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

    Jon,
Having had this question myself, I did a search on here a little while ago and found a thread that was quite useful.

Also if you have a copy of ENTREPOT, on page 238 has a period sketch of the pack from the War Office Records of Great Britain. It shows two straps strapped around the pack and holding a blanket to the back face of the pack.

    I hope this helps you

      Great point, Tom.

Mr. Preston, your question, as stated is faulty unless you have a reference to blankets being attached to this type of knapsack in the way you describe.

This pattern of knapsack was made to be used in conjunction with a specific set of straps for attaching a blanket (or whatever) to the rear face. There is a gentleman in the Garden State who makes such a set of straps, as well as this type of knapsack. What is interesting, is that the straps themselves were also made to be used independent of the knapsack as an improvised carriage for a blanket roll, etc.

Hmmm... Now I think I know how I'll carry my bedroll at Backwaters 1865!
