    Not sure if this in the right spot as I am new. If the family was shipping stuff to the soldier in the field what sort of packaging would have been used?

    Nate, It depends on what was being sent, and how it was being sent, if it was in a wooden box, then nothing was added. SOme items would have been just wrapped in heavy or medium weight brown paper, tied with cord, and then sent. Hope this helps.
