  • junior officer sack coat

    hey gents.,

I am looking at wanting to purchase junior officers sack coat, but I don't know whom can make one with quality and a well-rounded price. Please, if anyone one could give me names, and contact info and prices that would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

Here's the thing- there are very few people who make a good private purchase blouse. In no particular order- S**ela, CJ Daley (only available in the secondary market now I think) and Joe Blunt at Carter and Jasper. They are all going to be more expensive than an enlisted blouse- the material is more, the detail is more, etc etc. I would get comfortable in the fact you'll spend at least $250 on that coat.

Option #2 would be to track down an enlisted blouse and do some alterations to it, like adding pockets.

      Pat,

$250 would be a bargain. Even ones at mainstream sutlers are going for near $300. A quality one will likely be in the $500 to $550 range.

For an officers sack coat? Wow, I guess the two I've purchased have been bargains then.

well, thanks pards for the replies! I was kinda expecting around 200 which is reasonable in the market. I might just get another enlisted blouse and do some alterations with it. I think that would be somewhat inexpensive and creative, but you never know, lol! Thanks again pards!

You might consider posting in the "Want to Buy" forum, along with your size. You never know who has something to sell at a price you're willing to pay.

                    Consider wearing enlisted clothing.
Here are the words of John Gould, 10th ME on Sept. 3, 1862: "There are many new regiments around here...They are truly Band box regiments and we see how we must have looked to the 84th Penn. whom we relieved at Winchester which after all is a good fighting regiment. I have almost vowed never to wear anything but the dirty Private's uniform which I wear on the march. Father is in error about the uniform. An officer needs only to wear a uniform when on duty of dignity. On marches and battle he needs only to wear a small shoulder strap which a man at sixty yards cannot see. Half the army officers are prudent enough to be uniformed like the men and similarly dirty. I do not wear even the straps..." [This is fairly early in the war and one of several mentions he makes of wearing enlisted clothing, so you might want to be truly "progressive" and look like all those officers who didn't want to be recognized as such by the Rebels.]
