  • Original Movie clips. Well, the closest thing we can get to them

Moderators, I know this isn’t Civil War but I feel it has some similarities to some of the stuff discussed here.

This is a link to the LOC’s website of Spanish American War Movies. I know some of these were posted a few years back, but their pretty neat.

This is the closet thing that we can get to Civil War Soldiers marching, fighting, working and just living on film. Too bad Thomas Edison was not born fifty years earlier. :cry_smile

These are a neat. The arguement has come up in the past on these SpanAm films and well as post war manuals giving insight into wartime military experiences. I don't fully subscribe to those opinions.

However, even though Edison wasn't alive at the time of the war, many Vets did survive into Edison's time. And much of the GAR,UCV,& Reunion footage is amazing!

Bill Stipple has the Echoes of the Blue & Gray videos out now on DVD, and they show vets marching in parades, their reminiscences and even some drilling with a rifle in one of the clips. The DVDs are a must have! I think Greystone in G'brg has it for under $20.

Is there any know audio recording of a CW vet speaking? I feel that would be a good insight to their speach patterns.
