    Howdy,

Well, you could just get one that has no maker's mark in it. Easiest way to solve the usage for both US and CS (and civilian).

I'd like to say if ya really want a maker's mark, to look North. Industry was strong up there n hats could have been sent to southern city hat shops. I don't have anything to support that statement however, just specualtion. Though I think it coulda happned. There's the local hat maker to consider as well in both the NOrth n South. It seems like it was still a craft, an "art" if you will, in the antebellum/war period.

I have a Bender, which has no maker anyway, but I'd still get one without markings for my first hat, especially if I planned to go back n forth betwixt US n CS.

    Cheers,

Cullen, I take it from the name of your group that you are doing a Kentucky based CS impression? If that is so, you can rest easily with authenticly wearing a "liberated" hat from a foe that no longer needed it, so it can have a northern maker stamped in it. One other think you can consider, the Ky Brigade, weren't issued hats, but thousands of caps, at least according to veiwed QM records. So if you want to wear one, going from available documentation, the only way to get one would be battlefield pickup, or buy one from civilian source, and I'm sure that source quickly dried up.

How about Nashville, Chattanooga or maybe England.
