Question - been looking here and on the web and am trying to locate the formation, process, etc that a regiment goes through to get paid. Found a lot of stuff on soldiers pay, company officers got paid first, then NCO's, then privates.
But where do sutlers, laundresses, tailors, etc come in to get paid? I know they needed to keep a book showing who purchased what or what service was provided and at what price for these individuals.
I was told that once the company commander was paid, he paid off the soldier's IOUs, then the amount would be deducted from soldiers pay as he was paid.
Also are soldiers fully cootered, with leathers and under arms? or just in uniforms?
