  • "Duck Pants"

Fellas, What the heck are "Duck Pants"? I am writing a three volume series on the Sixteenth Tennessee Infantry and have run across requisitions which differ from any others throughout the course of the war that I have seen. Every other requisition is for so many "prs pants", but in August 1863, the regiment is specifically requesting so many "prs duck pants".

My first thought was that perhaps these were some kind of cotton pants that were or could be issued for hot weather, specifically 100% cotton pants, as they were issuing cotton pants in November of 1864 to the AoT at the commencement of the Tennessee campaign. Why though, I womder would they issue these pants for a fall/winter campaign unless they were more quickly or easily manufactured?

Apparently the term "duck" is a specific item, as it is specifically requested by all ten companies. Can anyone help me out on this term, or specifically what it is?

    Thanks,

    Jamie Gillum
