  • Cleaning

    Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a Theo Frank hat from Tim Allen. I had it on outside over the week end where it was exposed to a very dusty, windy environment. Now, I realize used/dirty ect. is a good impression at times but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to clean it a bit. It's pretty badly covered with dusty dirt. I didn't want to take a brush to it and damage the material (if it would) if there was a better way. I'm thinking of blowing it off gently with compressed air. What do y'all think?

    Thanks.

    Re: Cleaning

As a Native Texan, I can relate to you what any good cowboy knows when it comes to a fine fur felt hat, be it the cowboy variety or otherwise: Always brush WITH the direction of the fur felt with a fine bristled hat brush to remove dust and dirt, and keep the nap of the felt looking it's best. Any spots should be treated with an absorbant powder available in the hat section of any western clothing and boot store.

      Re: Cleaning

FWIW, I was at an extremely dusty event this past weekend, and was talking with Dirty Billy as he was packing to leave. His hats were all very dusty, so as he took each one off the shelf he dusted it off with a hat brush before packing it. The brushing was surprisingly vigorous, but I have to assume that he would treat his own products in an appropriate fashion.
