  • riveted barrel bands

I just picked up an 1861 Springfield that has screws instead of the correct rivets in the barrel bands. Has anyone changed theirs out for the correct configuration? If so, where do I find the correct rivets?

    Thank you,

    Re: riveted barrel bands

    Hallo!

I make my own by softening a section of nail, peening one end and filing the rivet "head."
I made several rivet head tools by reworking a cheapy ($3 or $4) "nail set" and use it to peen the other side of the rivet when it is in place.
