  • Dumb Kepi Question

I recently purchased a Federal Kepi to be worn to a CW ball at a re-enactment living history event and was wondering what the regs were for unit / branch of service insignia. I think I read somewhere (can't find the source and searched the site without luck) that the Crossed sabers went on top, with the regimental number, and the company letter went on the front of the cap. Am I correct?

I realize I would make this all much easier and more correct if I just bought a Hardee in the first place!

    thanks,

Sir, here is a link with a decent period example of "hat bling": http://howardlanham.tripod.com/link91.htm

There are some other examples on the website as well.

        Re: Dumb Kepi Question

        Hallo!

        In brief...

The Regulations called for a company letter to be worn on the front of the forage cap. (When followed.)

What other dress hat type adornments, or other "stuff," varied by the time and place of individual units, and as well as down to what individual commanders allowed or did or did not enforce down to a man-by-man level.

(Not being snarky, but reenactment "balls" are not part of the "authentic campaigner" community and are reflective of other hobby communities apart from the AC Forum. But, the historical question is a valid one.)

Hmmm. I don't know. I have to say, I've seen plenty of campaigners that had them.

          :)

Sorry gents. I couldn't help it.
