If my memory serves me correctly the Florida Belt Buckle that some of the sutler sell is based off an original. When did this buckle come out and/ or who wore them? Is there a better belt/ buckle that would be more correct? thanks

    Re: buckles

Seems like that would be a unit + event specific item. Seems like it would not be appropriate at many events you may attend. You'd get more bang for your buck if you get a plain buckle such as a Square Frame ("Georgia Frame"), Fork Tongue, or even a Roller Buckle.

        Re: buckles

Florida buckles as sold by the sutlers today are a complete fantasy piece and were unused by any Florida troops. The rectangular buckle with the palm tree is loosely based on a South Carolina militia buckle, and the one with the word Florida over an eagle is a loose adaption of one used by only a handful of people in the pre-war militia, who ended up in the 1st or the 3rd Florida Infantry. You are better served using a non-descripte frame buckle, roller buckle, or as seen in a few original images a British import lion's head or snake belt
