In the book "A Damned Iowa Greyhound" which is a collection of letters from a member of the 19th Iowa, he mentions a spent ball striking his side but failing to pierce his overcoat, which may be an indication of how a portion of them were dressed.

He also mentions several times that at least a portion of the rebel line was lying down during this fight, and it sounds like the 19th ended up lying down behind a fence to fight for a little while.

According to his letters they were also issued Enfields that they were told were taken off a blockade runner.

He mentions being issued dress coats shortly after enlisting but doesn't mention a fatigue blouse until well after the Battle of Prairie Grove.

No mention on whether they were issued hats or caps though.

One of the best accounts of the 19th Iowa is "Federals on The Frontier" The Diary of Benjamin F. McIntyre, Nanny Tilley, U of Texas 1963. Accounts from enlistment thru 1864, day By day.
