  • Department of Alabama Shell Jacket

Gents, I'm on the hunt for some detailed photos of a Department of Alabama Jacket; in particular the top stitching details, button holes and the belt loop placement. I'm about to put together a County Cloth kit and I want it to be right. Any help is greatly appreciated. All I seem to be able to find is the standard black and white photos in the Jenson article and the few photos in Echos of Glory. Thanks!

    Eric,

I've seen the ones in New Orleans through the glass and have talked with folks who have examined them. They look like your or mine 1st sewing project, only if we started after about 7 bourbons. the workman ship is very poor. loose crooked stitching not put together very well. pretty crude garments.

      Bryant,
I saw the thing through the glass and in comparison to some of the "quality" garments I've seen floating around- it's still better than most. Most people will read that post and think 4 stitches per inch is good.

fair point. It is shoddy by 19th C. standards but not in the "crappy reenactor garb" category.
