I am looking for information on what type of closure is correct for food bags, poke bags, ditty bags etc. I have heard Jute Cord is correct, but I wanted to make sure. I bought some Jute "twine" at WalMart, but I don't know if it's what I need to use. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Poke Bags
I agree 100% with Mr. Weddle. I usually use plain cotton string. Sometimes I use hemp cord. I occasionally use jute.

[QUOTE=RyanBWeddle]Do whatever you like really ... there is no "correct" way to close pokes.
I'm not looking for a way to "Close" them...I am looking for correct material to use for the closures, in other words will regular cotton woven string be, in a sense, authentic?[B]Yours in the Cause,

Mr. Gerkin,
The Jute that you use, is it twine or cord? The one I bought looks like a smaller version of hemp. It is woven in 3 strands and appears hairy....for lack of a better word.[B]Yours in the Cause,

Re: Poke Bags
Sir,
I use both sizes of the jute. It depends on the size of the bag. It is three strand, and "hairy". Mine comes from a hardware store, not Wal-mart(besides, it is closer and cheaper).[FONT=Georgia][FONT=Georgia]Very Respectfully,

Re: Poke Bags
If you want correct cordage get in touch with the guys at Ropesmiths. I haven't met anyone who has done as much research about period rope and cord as these guys. They definitely have their act together.
