Hathaway Writing Kit

I am going to begin building a Hathaway Writing Kit this weekend. I have read in past threads that some have made either this writing kit or the Brooks Patent Writing Kit, so if you have any hints/tips/etc, please let me know. I've been doing some research, but if there are any specific things I should definitely look at, please also let me know. I do have the patent info and several original pictures to go from.
