I don't have a scanner or anything like that to show the photo, but has anyone noticed in page 14-15 in the Union EOG that the first rank of men don't seem to be wear coats or even shirts! Now are these just light colored coats or are they just without coats and/or shirts and if so how did they get away with that? :confused_

Re: Photo in Union EOG
As it is a training exercise in Spring in Tennessee, I don't think it would be out of the ordinary to have the men strip down to only essential equipment so as to accomplish the task without losing a few men to heat-related injuries. The emphasis is on maneuvering brigades efficiently, not endurance training, so I'd reason that unless made with an integral direction-finding and rank-aligning device, a coat would be optional for such an exercise.Marc A. This might sound dumb but to me it looks like its cold out in that picture.Could that be snow on the ground or bare spots in the grass? Also the foilage on the trees is still sparse. It looks like the tops of the roofs in the background have some snow on them also the grass but not sure.Maybe they were coming out of some bad weather towards spring.Anyhow sure wouldnt want to be outside in that without a shirt.BRRRR.Will Rumsey/ SWB Shocker Mess

The white tops on the winterquaters in the back ground are shelterhalves, as for the foreground it is hard to say. I could be snow it could be mud. At anyrate they are obviously acclimated to living out doors. BTW it is in the lower 60s here and I am wearing shorts :wink_smilRobert Johnson
