    Could that be a millstone?

Looks like a steel ball bearing painted black to me.

        Gents-

I probably should explain why the "mystery ball" looks so clean. When I purchased it the ball was rusty and does have some pitting or ground action on it. After I got home from Tennessee I wire brushed it a bit and coated it with an anti rust agent and than sprayed a clear spray paint on it. That's why it looks like its new out of the box. I can honestly assure you though it was RUSTY.

I realize there are differing opinions on how to protect these types of iron pieces but passing such items around to the public/kids annoys people when their hands are orange after they touch them.

The dealer I purchased the ball from is LH in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I have bought items from him off and on for over 25 years and his descriptions although vague for his merchandise at times are usually correct.
