Blanket options for begining Confederate

In dealing with another Civil War BB, the question of blankets for those new to, or beginning Confederate impressions has been brought up.

Back in the day the choices were really not bad, you had blankets from FHW, Childs, Tart...but I have been looking and searching all over the net for resources to direct folk on where to get anything for a good blanket for Confederate usage. The sources I mentioned above seem to have "dried up"!

Who would be good sources to point someone to now?

There is someone on the east coast that sells a Confederate "Gettysburg" blanket, but I cannot recall his name at the moment... :wink_smil

Hallo!

For "civilian" type home-spun blankets (hand woven), there are two 18th century makers... Wilde, and Stone.

C.J. Wilde stopped weaving a number of years ago, but her blankets often appear on EBAY or in the ad folders of the 18th century reenacting and more so "trekking" sites.

If you are getting a coverlet from FHW, be sure it is of 100% natural fibers. They are now making great coverlets with man made modern fibers for the home decor market as well. So make sure you get the good variant if you get one from them.

Carpet blankets from FHW are always a nice option. I have a summer weight one if you are interested.

S&S carries a good variety of Jean blankets. I own one and viewed several in person in Gettysburg.
I'm not a blanket guru but I also saw a wool blanket carried by Sutler of Fort Scott that claimed to have the correct weave and looked pretty good. For the money, might be a great option.

Folk...the suggestions are great, and a big help! I'm finding the Sutler of Fort Scott is one source of goods I have not looked into. I like what I'm seeing on FHW, noting the advice to check first in making sure the fibers are natuaral. Also South Union Mills looks to be a good place to look.
