  • Calling Paul Hadley

Mods: feel free to move this if it is positioned in the wrong place.

One of the questions that comes up from time to time, particularly at the start of the "season" is what to do about airline travel and muskets. Last summer, Paul Hadley was casting about for options as he prepared to fly to Chattanooga for the Lookout Mtn Preservation March. I suggested this product as a possible solution:

Paul, If you're out there, and if you bought the musket-length case, what did you think? How about a product review for all our benefit? Thumbs up or down?

    Cordially,

    Re: Calling Paul Hadley

This is the one I purchased (62" model) and have been very happy with it - fits even a 42 Springfield. Toss the bayonet and any other metal object you do not want to deal with in your bags and off you go. The bar locking system works very well and you only need one lock. I have a plastic sword case that works well except it requires 3 locks.

Of note, lately we have been mailing our weapons from the Pacific Northwest to events and it works very well. Remember you can only check 2 bags these days and none can be over 50 lbs. If the rifle is one bag then you are down to one bag for all your gear and other stuff you may need on safari. Mailing also avoids the whole security thing and you can mail your rounds as well. By the time you get done answering all the questions about your cool gun and locking and unlocking the case, not to mention dragging it through the airport, falling back on UPS or USPS is not a bad idea.

For swords (must be checked as well and counts as one bag), you can simply use a musket shipping box taped securely for mailing - works like a champ.

      Keith,

I sent an e-mail to Paul, he replied and stated that he would send you an e-mail responding to your post. He is unable to access this site at work. There are so many anti-spam devices that he is unable to login. He said that he will take some digital photos of the case and send them to you to post if you would like.

Do these rounds you are mailing contain powder?
