Confederate (NC) canteen straps

Greetings All,

I have purchased a new canteen and I am wanting to go with my old strap style which was blue cotton ticking. I had to sacrifice a set of suspenders at an event to make a usable strap when my canteen strap broke. Once I made the fix... I kinda started liking the idea of it and the way it looked. The canteen I am buying is like all the others with a white canvas strap. Which one is honestly more correct/acceptable? The white canvas or a homemade cotton ticking strap? Thanks in advance.



The first picture is the canteen I have purchased... the second is an older picture with my old canteen strap ( I have since replaced the hat in case anyone was curious)

Greetings. Do you think our ancestors are going to know how you used the incognito window on Google to hide your browsing history from your wife/girlfiend? Doubtful because you probably have not documented it in your journal.

Soldiers improvised all the time (i.e. cartridge boxes as belts). The only reason why we know this is because several survived the war. Unless you are representing a very specific item from the war, then use it and be done.

He just saying we don't typically make note of everyday trivial things as we assume everybody already knows them and thus they tend to not be very well documented.

Since you asked I would ditch the strap, stopper and chain. Get a nice cedar limb and carve a stopper. Use your strap from the old canteen. Use a piece of string to retain the stopper, or not.

Depending on your height, that strap looks mighty long. Could be a knee banger for sure.

Thought that myself actually...Going to have to kit up tonight and see... if it is so.. a few stitches and another 30min of sewing and will be good to go...
