Gentlemen I was unsure where to post this, I'm looking for help to re oil a ground cloth.

Gentlemen of the AC, I'm looking to reoil my ground cloth. I'm looking either to send it to someone to do, or perhaps do it my self. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hallo!

I did not do the SEARCH function for you to see but...

There used to be a number of posts and threads on making both Period ingredient or recipe "paints' (haversacks or knapsacks) as well as more convenient "look alike" modern substitutes linseed oil and black pigments.
Some of the 18th century military or "trekking' boards or sites may also have "how to" make oil-based paint articles (linseed oil, turpentine, powdered pigment) .

        John, follow the link. Www.cwscar.com
Go to research and info and then period recipes. There are instructions for period paint there.

Tyler, Thanks for the link! And has anyone taken an old tarred ground cloth and repainted it, mine is pretty flaky, I would assume to brush it the best before repainting.
