  • .69 caliber cartridge box

I am looking to purchase an 1842 Springfield musket and want to get a 69 caliber cartridge box to go with it ( I will probably use it more for union but also confederate). So far, I have considered the 1839, the 1857, and the 1861. For a generic union impression, what 69 caliber cartridge box would be best?

Bill Jordan has a gorgeous one for sale in this forum from MB&S. He also had it on the Civil War Trade Blanket page on Facebook.

To get down to brass tacks, I would recommend defining which unit you are primarily going to portray, and looking at what they would most likely have been issued. Were they early volunteers issued from state stocks before being sent out west, or are you portraying a replacement or later war addition to an existing unit, which would have been outfitted differently?
