  • What was federal issue?

I've been looking and I can't find a good list of everything a union infantry soldier was issued during the war. I know the basic uniform pieces but am curious to find if there were any less common items or items often overlooked by reenactors. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the federal standard issue equipment: everything that was issued (or supposed to be)? Did this change in the later war?

    August,

You can take a look at the Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States 1861, which will give you a wealth of information about the basics the government would provide to the troops. You can find it online by typing it in a search engine.

People spend much time creating event impression standards. The various lists for different regiments in different theaters and different times are a wealth of information which are often overlooked. Maybe you could look there.

Also, don't forget to consult your nco's. They wear stripes for a reason
