    How prevalent were 1st Sgt.'s wearing only their Diamond? You see it a lot at events. Until recently I had never seen a picture of a 1st Sgt. doing it. Is it one of those things where one picture speaks for 1,000's of reenactors doing it?

    It seems a fairly common practice later in the war. That, and not wearing chevrons or trowser stripes at all. Military Images had a whole article with examples a few years back, including reduced corporal stripes. Unlike reduced insignia for officers, though, I don't think it ever gained official authorization, and the latter appears in many more variations than the one authorized...
