View this fully and copiously illustrated article about Loading in Nine Times using the Light Infantry method commonly called, “Casey’s.”
Casey’s method of loading is based upon the Light Infantry Tactics found in Hardee’s 1855 manual. To the roughly twenty paragraphs of text, Casey added two short sentences about handling the longer musket verses the shorter rifle. That’s it. Otherwise, his text for loading is identical to Hardee’s 1855.
To the text is added new period illustrations from a locally printed 1861 militia manual. The illustrations chart nearly every process of loading. The motions for drawing, turning and ramming are especially solid. These new period illustrations are supplemented by other period illustrations of soldiers demonstrating, side by side, with a rifle and a musket.
You’ll be glad you printed a copy for your next drill. Link to attached article : IllustratedLoadInNineTimesLightInfantry.pdf
