  • Type I or Type II?

    Gentlemen,

    I am beginning to put together my Federal impression and would like to solicit your opinions if I may. As I am on a budget, I must initially go in the direction of a generic impression. With this in mind, which would you recommend, a type I or type II forage cap to meet the majority of needs?

    Thanks in advance for your time.

    Check here;

    Post # 5 by Ryan B Weddle in this thread is very helpful. This may make your decision easier.

      Re: Type I or Type II?

      Thank you Mr. Beall. I did use the search function beforehand and have read through that thread. There is excellent information in it. It really doesn't specifically answer my question though as to which would be the better generic representation. Unless of course the answer is neither, that either one would be appropriate. From photos taken over the entire period and the replies to Mr. Galli's questions, that would seem to be the case. I wanted to run it by the group though before making that assumption and decision on my own and ending up purchasing an incorrect item.

      Thank you again.

        Re: Type I or Type II?

        First off, use the search function, http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...ead.php?t=3389

        Second, stop using the the terms Type 1 and Type 2! They are descriptions make up by a cap maker years ago to describe the two caps he was making, and have nothing to do with caps in general from the time period.

        Any one of these caps should work just fine; http://www.cjdaley.com/foragecaps.htm

          Sir,

          As I stated previously I used the search function but the information was inconclusive. As to the terms Type I/Type II I agree with your point that these are latter day descriptions and not period. If you know of a better way to refer to them in order that their differences be easily understood I would appreciate the information.

          Thank you,

            Mr. Beall,

            I must appologize, in my first reading I missed your reference to post #5 by Mr. Weddle (it was early). Sorry, yes that is very helpful.

            Thank you and Mr. Johnson both for your helpful information.
