    defences??

    I am curious as to different types of manmade defences that would have been built...I read that there were gabions?? How are these different types of defences constructed?

    If you have, or can get ahold of, a copy of Billings's "Hardtack and Coffee," in the latter part of the book he has booth drawings and descriptions of various manmade obstacles. There isn't as much about trenches, but learning the French names of all those obstacles would be pretty impressive.
