All, I am looking for a maker that I saw on here(I think), that made authentic bowie knives. Ive already tried the search function and didnt come up with it so if someone could point me in the right direction it would be very helpful. Thanks :D

Re: Bowie Knives
Hallo Kamerad!
And there are number of blacksmiths/knifesmiths who largely serve the 18th century "longhunter community" who can copy an original or otherwise hand-forge a "bowie" knife on a custom-order basis.
However, as shared, "Swamp Fox" usually has a couple or three "ready to click and order" without the many month or year wait often associated with custom work.

Shefield Knives
Hi All,
English imported Knives are realy under represented. Shefield produced knives are some of the most common. Dixie Gun Works has a couple that are real imports from England, correctly made by, if I remember correctly, the same company. You will have to have a new scabbard made though as the one theat comes with the knife is just plain old wrong. Also don't forget "Green River" type knives. they are correct as well for some impressions.
Hope this helps,

Re: Bowie Knives
Isaac,
Again I have jumped the gun and posted a reply for a Confederate example. If you are Federal I would certainly take Don Smith's advice and look at an English piece. An original may not be much more than a fine copy.

Re: Bowie Knives
Shefield knives lack personality. I agree with Garrison. Confederate blades rule!Last edited by Jimmayo; 05-23-2008, 07:28 PM.Jim Mayo

Re: Bowie Knives
Garrison,
Swamp Fox Knives will copy that if you send pictures of what you want. But be advised it's not cheap. His D-Guards usually go for $300 but on the up note they are a work of art and extremly sharp and hold that edge very well. I have a D-guard of his and am very happy with it. Mine is about 14 1/2 " overall length.John Greenfield
