In the School Of The Battalion, Part Fifth, Article First, "To advance in line of battle" at several point in the text, markers and directions are given a letter designation (d) - (sz) - (zz) , etc. These letters are the same as in Scott's and the plate in Scott's has these, however, my (repro) Hardee's doesn't seem to have any letter designations on it's illustrations. Does anyone have a real copy of Hardee's that they can check the plates ? I'm thinking perhaps Hardee's SoB is either just Scott's SoB with the paragraphs renumbered or a translation of the same manual that Scott translated and they didn't notice the (xx) type labels don't serve any purpose when paired with new illustrations.

Re: Hardee's question
John,
While I do not have an orginal copy of Hardees, past exprience and reading has indicated Hardee "borrowed" very heavily from Scotts. Many of the plates are exactly the same. I can't remember if the orginal copies of Hardees I have seen had the letter indicators or not with in that plate.Tripp Corbin
