  • Patent/NA website

    All
In my never-ending quest for primary sources I cannot help but continually be frustrated at the National Archives website and the Patent offices website. I know before the crash we had a few threads on here in regards to basic research applications. I believe it might have also been under the old toolbar link for "links" which was replete with a ton of great articles as well. Currently I am in search for the patents for the 1841 Rifle as well as Maynard’s 1845 patent for the tape primer. Would anyone happen to have these on hand? Furthermore could we turn this post into a how to negotiate those two websites for the benefit of all the younger guys without the previous experience. Maybe turn the post into a proactive repsonce to Emmanuel's "whatever happened to" thread.

NARA always gives me a headache. Plus, they haven't digitised their 6,000 glass plate negatives in high res. No... you have to buy them from an outside print house. They're got the Belle Plain prisoner images, and a slew of great 7th New York and soldiers-hanging-around-in-camp shots that' I'm dying to see.

      NARA... Grrr...

But, then again, they do have the Constitution and Declaration of Indepedence to see for free. Just don't try to steal them.

Received. “How now about the fifth and sixth guns?”
Sent. “The sixth gun is the bully boy.”
Received. “Can you give it any directions to make it more bully?”
Sent. “Last shot was little to the right.”
Received. “Fearfully hot here. Several men sunstruck. Bullets whiz like fun. Have ceased firing for awhile, the guns are so hot."
