  • Another style of kepi ventilator?

A fellow in Mississippi just dug 5 of these in a spot thats yeilded mostly 2 ring gardners and enfield bullets. So what does everyone think? Looks close IMHO.

Resembles a type I've seen used in slouch hats. More of a screen.

      Ken,
I would think that a slouch being something that was brought from home that you wouldnt see 5 dug in one place. But thats just me.

Do you know the diameter? Looks alot like the end of the charcoal water filter pictured on page 331 of Lords vol. 1. If thats not it I would agree its possibly a hat vent of some sort. Maybe from the Whipple hat? I know it had vent holes, but not sure if it had a screen in them or not. Just my 2 cents.

Haven't seen vents of any kind of Whipple caps, Loomis caps, or seamless caps in general. IF they had any kind of vent they appear to have been field-made holes poked in the side.
